Executive Compensation
Shawn E. Schukar is the Chairman and President of Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI), a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation dedicated to building and operating high-voltage electric transmission infrastructure. In this pivotal role, he oversees strategic planning, project development, regulatory compliance, and operations for one of the nation's leading transmission-only utilities, managing a portfolio that spans over 2,400 miles of transmission lines serving Illinois and supporting the broader Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region. Under his leadership, ATXI has advanced critical initiatives to modernize the grid, integrate renewable energy sources, and enhance reliability for millions of customers. Schukar joined Ameren Corporation in 2004 after a distinguished career in the energy industry, including roles at MidAmerican Energy where he focused on transmission planning and engineering. Rising through the ranks at Ameren, he served as Vice President of Transmission Operations and Director of Transmission Planning and Projects, where he spearheaded multi-billion-dollar investments in infrastructure upgrades. His tenure has been marked by achievements such as the successful completion of the $2.3 billion Illinois Rivers transmission project—one of the largest in U.S. history—delivering economic benefits exceeding $1 billion to Illinois communities and positioning ATXI as a leader in resilient, efficient power delivery. A graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Schukar holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. He is actively involved in industry organizations, including the Edison Electric Institute and MISO stakeholder committees, and has been recognized for his contributions to grid innovation and workforce development.
