Rezk's tenure at Apple elevated his profile, where he rose to Vice President of Sensing Hardware in the Special Projects Group. There, he spearheaded the creation of the world's first miniaturized vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays, powering groundbreaking features like Face ID on iPhones. In 2017, inspired by the need for superior perception in autonomous vehicles and robotics, Rezk co-founded Aeva alongside Soroush Salehian, leveraging Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) LiDAR to deliver instantaneous velocity measurement alongside range and reflectivity—capabilities unmatched by traditional Time-of-Flight sensors.
