With more than 25 years of experience in infectious disease vaccine development, Dr. Arbet-Engels holds an M.D. from the University of Strasbourg Medical School in France and a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Paris. His early career included training in internal medicine and infectious diseases, followed by leadership roles at Novartis Vaccines and Roche, where he advanced clinical programs for meningococcal and pneumococcal vaccines. Prior to joining Altimmune in 2021, Dr. Arbet-Engels was Senior Vice President and Head of Clinical Development at Sanofi Pasteur, overseeing a global portfolio of vaccine candidates targeting influenza, dengue, RSV, and COVID-19. Under his leadership, several programs progressed to Phase 3 trials, demonstrating his expertise in regulatory strategy, trial design, and cross-functional team management. His contributions have resulted in multiple investigational new drug applications and successful interactions with regulatory authorities worldwide. At Altimmune, Dr. Arbet-Engels directs the clinical development strategy for the company's lead candidates, including AdCOVID, an intranasal COVID-19 booster vaccine, and HepTcell, a therapeutic vaccine for chronic hepatitis B.
