Gregory Keenan, M.D., is a board-certified nephrologist with more than 25 years of experience in clinical practice and biopharmaceutical development, specializing in glomerular diseases, lupus nephritis, and rare kidney disorders. He earned his medical degree from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine and nephrology fellowship at the University of Toronto. Prior to his pharmaceutical career, Dr. Keenan built a distinguished clinical practice focused on transplant nephrology and autoimmune renal conditions. He later held senior roles, including Vice President of Medical Affairs at Questcor Pharmaceuticals (now Mallinckrodt), where he advanced therapies like Acthar Gel for nephrotic syndrome. As Chief Medical Officer at Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 2018 to 2022, Dr. Keenan led the clinical development, regulatory strategy, and medical affairs for voclosporin (LUPKYNIS™), a first-in-class calcineurin inhibitor. His leadership was instrumental in the successful Phase 3 AURORA and AURORA 2 trials, culminating in FDA approval in January 2021—the first new therapy for lupus nephritis in over two decades—and subsequent approvals in Europe, Japan, and other markets. Under his guidance, Aurinia expanded its pipeline and established robust safety and efficacy data for this breakthrough treatment. Dr. Keenan has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, presented at major nephrology conferences, and served on advisory boards for renal therapeutics. His contributions have solidified his reputation as a thought leader in autoimmune kidney diseases, driving innovation in patient care for underserved populations.
