Brent Shafer is a distinguished healthcare executive serving as Non-Executive Chair of the Board at Baxter International Inc., a global leader in medical products and therapies. With over 30 years of experience in the medical technology sector, Shafer has built a proven track record of driving growth and innovation at major companies. Prior to Baxter, he held the position of Executive Vice President and President of BD Medical at Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), where he led a $10 billion business unit focused on medication delivery, medication management, and diagnostics, achieving significant revenue expansion through strategic acquisitions and operational excellence. Earlier in his career, Shafer served as President and CEO of Vyaire Medical, and held senior leadership roles at Cardinal Health and CareFusion, honing his expertise in supply chain optimization, global commercialization, and regulatory compliance. Shafer joined Baxter's Board of Directors in 2022, bringing his deep industry knowledge to support the company's strategic direction. In August 2023, following the retirement of CEO José E. Almeida, he stepped in as Interim CEO and later as Executive Chair, providing critical stability during a transitional period. In these roles, Shafer spearheaded key initiatives, including cost-saving measures, portfolio realignment, and enhanced focus on high-growth areas like kidney care and advanced surgery, which strengthened Baxter's financial performance and market position. Today, as Non-Executive Chair, Shafer continues to guide Baxter's Board in overseeing long-term value creation amid evolving healthcare demands. Shafer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
