Thomas J. Schuetz, MD, Ph.D., serves as Chief Executive Officer of Compass Therapeutics, a clinical-stage oncology-focused biopharmaceutical company developing proprietary antibody-based therapeutics targeting multiple cancer pathways. With over 25 years of experience in oncology drug development, Dr. Schuetz is a seasoned physician-scientist renowned for advancing immunotherapies from early discovery to global commercialization. He earned his MD and PhD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed residency training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and conducted postdoctoral research in tumor immunology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Schuetz's career includes pivotal leadership roles at Genentech, where he directed early clinical development of oncology candidates, and at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), where he rose to Head of Oncology Development. At BMS, he oversaw the successful global development and regulatory approval of Opdivo (nivolumab), the first PD-1 inhibitor, along with combination regimens involving Yervoy (ipilimumab) and other immuno-oncology assets, generating tens of billions in revenue and transforming cancer treatment paradigms. At Compass Therapeutics, Dr. Schuetz directs the advancement of the company's innovative pipeline, including CTX-009 (a DLL4/VEGF bispecific antibody in Phase 2/3 trials for colorectal cancer) and CTX-471 (a first-in-class CD137 agonist in Phase 1). His expertise in immuno-oncology and strategic acumen position Compass to deliver breakthrough therapies addressing unmet needs in solid tumors and beyond.
