Prior to joining BigCommerce in 2018, Cassidy held senior legal roles at Shopify and Oracle, navigating complex regulatory landscapes and spearheading intellectual property protections for SaaS platforms. Among his notable achievements, he orchestrated the legal framework for BigCommerce's 2020 IPO on NASDAQ, raising over $250 million, and successfully defended the company against multiple patent infringement claims, saving an estimated $50 million in potential liabilities. Cassidy also played a pivotal role in international expansions into Europe and Asia, establishing data privacy compliance under GDPR and CCPA. In his current role, Cassidy oversees a team of 25 legal professionals, managing contracts, litigation, corporate governance, and risk management to support BigCommerce's mission of empowering merchants worldwide. His strategic foresight has been instrumental in fostering innovation while mitigating legal risks in the competitive e-commerce sector, earning him recognition as a "Top General Counsel" by The Corporate Counsel in 2023.
