Ryan J. Watts, Ph.D. i s one of our co-founders and has served as a member of our board of directors since March 2015 and as our President and Chief Executive Officer since August 2015. Previously, Dr. Watts was at Genentech, a biotechnology company, where he held various research and leadership roles of increasing responsibility between 2004 and 2015; including his time served as Director of the Department of Neuroscience from 2013 to February 2015. In addition, Dr. Watts led Genentech s blood-brain barrier team between 2009 and 2015. Dr. Watts has authored and co-authored more than 60 scientific papers and has been an inventor on a number of patents in the blood-brain barrier and neurodegeneration fields. Dr. Watts currently serves on the board of privately held healthcare company Peel Therapeutics. Dr. Watts is an Adjunct Professor in the Chemical and System Biology Department at Stanford University and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at University of Utah. Dr. Watts received his Ph.D. in biological sciences from Stanford University and his B.S. in biology from the University of Utah. We believe Dr. Watts is qualified to serve on our board of directors because of the perspective and experience he provides as one of our co-founders and as our President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as his broad experience within the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in the area of neuroscience and drug discovery and development.
