Matthew Paul is the President and Chief Operating Officer of DTE Electric, a key subsidiary of DTE Energy, where he leads the operations of one of Michigan's largest electric utilities, serving approximately 2.3 million customers across Southeast Michigan. With more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry, Paul began his career at DTE Energy as an engineer in the transmission and distribution group. He progressed through critical leadership roles, including Director of Distribution Operations, Vice President of Electric Operations, and Senior Vice President of Electric Delivery, honing his expertise in grid management, regulatory compliance, and large-scale infrastructure projects. Paul's achievements underscore his commitment to operational excellence and innovation. He has spearheaded major initiatives such as the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure and smart grid technologies, which have significantly reduced outage durations and improved system reliability—earning DTE Electric national recognition for top performance in J.D. Power customer satisfaction surveys. Under his guidance, the company has accelerated its clean energy transition, integrating over 1,000 MW of renewable capacity and advancing battery storage projects to support Michigan's net-zero goals by 2050. In his current role, Paul oversees a workforce of more than 5,000 employees, focusing on enhancing resilience against extreme weather, driving cost efficiencies, and fostering equitable access to reliable power. A registered Professional Engineer in Michigan, he actively engages with stakeholders, including regulators and community leaders, to shape the future of sustainable energy delivery.
