He began his career as a certified public accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co., followed by progressive roles at MGM MIRAGE, where he rose to Vice President of Finance for the MGM Grand. Zimmerman later served as Vice President of Finance at Disney Parks & Resorts and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Herschend Family Entertainment, honing his expertise in managing large-scale theme parks and attractions. In 2009, Zimmerman joined Six Flags Entertainment Corporation as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer amid the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. He played a pivotal role in guiding Six Flags through its emergence from bankruptcy in 2010, becoming President and Chief Operating Officer shortly thereafter. Promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2011, he led the company for over eight years, overseeing significant achievements including record attendance and revenue growth, the introduction of innovative rides like The New Texas Giant and Superman: Escape from Krypton upgrades, international expansions, and strategic partnerships that enhanced guest experiences and operational efficiency. Zimmerman retired from his role as President and CEO of Six Flags in November 2019, leaving a lasting legacy of financial turnaround and industry innovation. Under his stewardship, Six Flags transformed into a more agile and profitable enterprise, consistently ranking among the top theme park operators globally. His strategic vision positioned the company for sustained success, earning him recognition as a transformative leader in the amusement industry.
