In this pivotal role, she led the company through a transformative period, overseeing the successful U.S. FDA approval of Rytelo™ (imetelstat), Geron's first commercial product for the treatment of low- to intermediate-1 risk myelodysplastic syndromes with transfusion-dependent anemia. Her leadership ensured seamless execution of regulatory milestones, commercialization strategies, and corporate governance during a critical phase of the company's evolution. Prior to her interim CEO position, Bir held the role of Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Geron since joining in 2019. She brought extensive expertise in biotechnology law, having previously served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Relypsa, Inc., where she managed legal operations until its acquisition by Galapagos NV. Earlier in her career, Bir was Vice President, Associate General Counsel at Onyx Pharmaceuticals, contributing to legal strategies during its growth and eventual acquisition by Amgen. She holds a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of California, Davis.
