Biography

Harout Semerjian serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Geron Corporation, a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing innovative therapies for hematologic malignancies. Appointed to this role in October 2023, following his tenure as Chief Commercial Officer since 2022, Semerjian has spearheaded the company's transition from a clinical-stage entity to a fully commercial organization. Under his leadership, Geron achieved a historic milestone with the FDA approval of RYTELO™ (imetelstat) in June 2024, the first telomerase inhibitor approved for the treatment of low- to intermediate-1 risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with transfusion-dependent anemia, marking the company's first commercial product launch. Semerjian brings over two decades of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a proven track record in oncology and hematology commercialization. Prior to joining Geron, he served as Head of the U.S. Oncology and Cell Therapy Business Unit at Takeda Pharmaceuticals from 2021 to 2022, where he drove strategic growth in key therapeutic areas. Before Takeda, he held progressively senior roles at AbbVie from 2013 to 2021, including U.S. and Global Vice President positions in Hematology/Oncology, overseeing blockbuster brands such as Imbruvica® and Venclexta®. Earlier in his career, Semerjian held commercial leadership roles at Genentech/Roche, building expertise in launching and scaling oncology franchises. His achievements include successfully navigating complex regulatory and commercial landscapes, fostering cross-functional teams to deliver patient-centric innovations, and expanding market access for transformative therapies. At Geron, Semerjian continues to guide the company's pipeline, including ongoing development of imetelstat in myelofibrosis and other indications, positioning Geron for sustained growth in the competitive hematology-oncology space.
