Shamik J. Parikh, MD, serves as Chief Medical Officer at Humacyte, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of universally implantable bioengineered human tissues. In this role, Dr. Parikh oversees the company’s global clinical development, regulatory strategy, medical affairs, and pharmacovigilance efforts, with a focus on advancing Humacyte’s lead product, Symvess™ (acellular tissue-engineered vessel), which received FDA approval in 2024 for treating vascular trauma in extremity arteries. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding the product through pivotal clinical trials and commercialization milestones, positioning Humacyte at the forefront of regenerative medicine. Dr. Parikh brings over two decades of experience in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, with expertise in hematology, oncology, and gene therapy. Prior to Humacyte, he was Chief Medical Officer at bluebird bio, where he led the clinical development and regulatory submissions for Zynteglo®, the first FDA-approved gene therapy for beta-thalassemia. Previously, he held senior roles at Takeda Pharmaceuticals as Head of U.S. Medical Affairs for Oncology and at Pfizer and Genentech in medical strategy and clinical development for hematologic malignancies. A board-certified hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Parikh earned his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and completed residency and fellowship training at Stanford University. Under Dr. Parikh’s guidance, Humacyte is expanding its pipeline to include applications in dialysis access and peripheral artery disease, leveraging his track record of successful drug approvals and commercial launches.
