Dr. Ian M. McRobbie serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at INNOSPEC INC., where he leads the company's global research, development, and innovation strategies across its fuels, oilfield, and performance chemicals businesses. With more than 30 years of experience in the specialty chemicals industry, Dr. McRobbie earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow. His early career at BP plc saw him rise from senior research chemist to head of advanced fuels technology, where he pioneered low-emission additives that met stringent European environmental regulations. Dr. McRobbie's achievements include over 40 patents in organometallic catalysts and fuel performance enhancers, as well as authorship of numerous publications in journals such as Fuel and Applied Catalysis. He spearheaded the development of INNOSPEC's market-leading Diallead™ and Octafuel™ technologies, which have improved fuel stability and octane performance for millions of vehicles worldwide, earning him the Royal Society of Chemistry's Applied Catalysis Award in 2015 and recognition as a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. In his current role, Dr. McRobbie directs a team of over 200 scientists and engineers, fostering sustainable innovations like bio-based additives and low-carbon oilfield solutions that align with global decarbonization goals. Under his leadership, INNOSPEC has accelerated its R&D investments, resulting in a 25% increase in new product launches over the past five years and strengthening the company's position as a leader in performance-driven, environmentally responsible chemicals.
