Robert K. Zeldin, M.D., is a distinguished physician-executive with over 25 years of experience in biopharmaceutical clinical development, specializing in rare diseases, immunology, and gene therapy. He earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, followed by residency training in pediatrics and fellowship in allergy and clinical immunology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Board-certified in Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Pediatrics, Dr. Zeldin began his career as a clinician-scientist, publishing extensively on immune-mediated disorders before transitioning to industry leadership. Dr. Zeldin has held senior roles at leading pharmaceutical companies, including Vice President of Global Clinical Development at Pfizer Inc., where he spearheaded Phase 3 programs for rare disease therapies, and similar positions at Shire (now Takeda) and Aventis, advancing treatments for hereditary angioedema and primary immunodeficiencies. His achievements include securing multiple FDA approvals, leading over a dozen investigational new drug applications, and authoring more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Recognized for his expertise in regulatory strategy and trial execution, he has been instrumental in bringing innovative therapies to market. As Chief Medical Officer at MeiraGTx Holdings plc, a clinical-stage gene therapy company, Dr. Zeldin oversees the end-to-end clinical development of the company’s AAV-based pipeline targeting ocular, salivary gland, neurologic, and metabolic diseases. Under his guidance, MeiraGTx has progressed key programs like botaretigene sparoparvovec for X-linked retinitis pigmentosa into pivotal trials, forging strategic partnerships and enhancing the company’s position in the gene therapy landscape. His strategic vision continues to drive transformative solutions for patients with severe unmet needs.
