Mr. Hayek, 55, is an attorney at Hayek, Moreland, & Smith, LLP, a general service law firm in Iowa City, where his practice focuses on business and real estate law. A fifth generation Iowa Citian, Mr. Hayek received a B.A. with honors in Social Sciences from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. Prior to graduate school, he served for two years in Bolivia with the United States Peace Corps. He worked at law firms in Atlanta and Chicago before returning to Iowa City. He served on the City Council of Iowa City from 2008 to 2016 and as Mayor of Iowa City from 2010 to 2016.
