She earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, completed her neurology residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and pursued advanced fellowship training in epilepsy at the University of Washington. Dr. Morrell spent over two decades at Columbia University Medical Center, ascending to Professor of Clinical Neurology and Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, where she led groundbreaking research in epilepsy surgery, neuromodulation, and clinical trials, authoring more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. Prior to joining NeuroPace in 2013, Dr. Morrell held senior roles in the pharmaceutical industry, including Vice President of Clinical Research at Pfizer Inc., where she spearheaded the development and regulatory approval of novel antiepileptic drugs. At NeuroPace, she served as a principal investigator for the pivotal clinical trials of the RNS System—the first FDA-approved responsive neurostimulation device for adults with focal epilepsy—contributing directly to its 2013 market clearance and subsequent expansions, including pediatric indications in 2024. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Morrell oversees medical affairs, clinical development, pharmacovigilance, and evidence generation, driving post-market studies like the pivotal PASLONG trial that demonstrated long-term seizure reduction. Her expertise has positioned NeuroPace as a leader in epilepsy innovation, blending academic rigor with industry acumen to improve outcomes for patients with refractory epilepsy.
