Christopher Slowe, Ph.D., serves as Chief Technology Officer at Reddit, Inc. (NYSE: RDDT), where he leads the company's engineering, infrastructure, and technology strategy. A physicist by training, Slowe earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University, focusing on experimental atomic physics. Early in his career, he gained prominence in the open-source community as a Perl contributor under the handle "chromatic." In 2005, he co-founded Reddit with Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, architecting the platform's foundational infrastructure that enabled its rapid growth as a hub for user-generated communities. After leaving Reddit in 2007, Slowe joined Heroku as Vice President of Engineering, where he scaled the pioneering Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) provider, contributing to its acquisition by Salesforce in 2010. He returned to Reddit in 2017 as Head of Engineering and ascended to CTO in 2020. During his tenure, Slowe has spearheaded transformative initiatives, including migrations to modern cloud infrastructure, enhancements in machine learning for content moderation, and optimizations that support over 500 million monthly active users while maintaining 99.99% uptime. Under Slowe's leadership, Reddit has advanced its global scalability, anti-abuse technologies, and developer tools, fostering innovation across advertising, personalization, and API ecosystems. His expertise in distributed systems, combined with a deep commitment to open-source principles, positions Reddit to navigate the evolving landscape of social media and AI-driven experiences.
