Jeffrey Finer, M.D., Ph.D., serves as Chief Executive Officer of Septerna Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering next-generation therapeutics targeting G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for endocrine, metabolic, and inflammatory diseases. With more than 30 years of leadership in biotechnology and gene therapy, Dr. Finer has a distinguished track record of translating groundbreaking science into clinical realities, including advancing multiple investigational new drug (IND) applications and driving transformative corporate milestones. Dr. Finer earned his Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard University and his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. Early in his career, he held key scientific roles at Somatix Therapy Corporation and Genzyme Corporation, where he contributed to pioneering gene therapy programs. He later served as Chief Scientific Officer at bluebird bio, overseeing the development of lentiviral-based gene therapies for rare genetic disorders, and as President and CEO of Asklepios Biopharmaceuticals (AskBio), leading the company through a landmark acquisition by Bayer in 2020 for up to $4 billion and progressing several AAV-based therapies into clinical trials. At Septerna, Dr. Finer leads the strategic vision and execution of the company's proprietary StaR (Stabilized Receptor) platform, which enables structure-based drug discovery for challenging GPCRs. Under his guidance, Septerna has advanced its lead program into Phase 1 clinical trials and forged key partnerships to accelerate the pipeline, positioning the company to address significant unmet medical needs with high-precision therapies.
