Thomas Sonderman is the Chief Executive Officer at SkyWater Technology Inc., a leading semiconductor foundry. Prior to Intevac, Sonderman held various leadership positions at GlobalFoundries, including Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He also spent 17 years at Applied Materials, where he held several key roles, including Vice President of the Maioro Product Business Group and Director of the Advanced Technology Group. As CEO of SkyWater Technology, Sonderman is responsible for guiding the company's strategic direction and overseeing its operations. Under his leadership, SkyWater has focused on expanding its technology portfolio and customer base, particularly in the areas of advanced packaging, IoT, and aerospace and defense. Sonderman's vision for the company is to become a leading provider of differentiated semiconductor solutions that address the growing demand for secure, reliable, and high-performance chips. His leadership has been instrumental in positioning SkyWater as a key player in the U.S. semiconductor industry, helping to strengthen the nation's supply chain and technological capabilities. Sonderman holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has authored numerous technical papers and holds several patents in the field of semiconductor manufacturing. In addition to his role at SkyWater, Sonderman serves on the board of directors of the Semiconductor Industry Association and is actively involved in promoting STEM education and workforce development initiatives. His contributions to the industry have been recognized with several awards, including the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) Award for North America and the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) Award for Outstanding Leadership.
