Angelos M. Stergiou, M.D., Sc.D. h.c., is a seasoned biopharmaceutical executive with over 25 years of experience in oncology drug development and commercialization. A graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and pursued advanced training in hematology and oncology. Dr. Stergiou has held pivotal leadership roles at several prominent biotech firms, including CEO of Trovagene, Inc., where he advanced precision medicine diagnostics; Chief Medical Officer at AVEO Oncology; and senior positions at Oncothyreon Inc. and Gemin X Biotechnologies, contributing to the development of novel cancer therapies that progressed through clinical trials and regulatory milestones. Throughout his career, Dr. Stergiou has been instrumental in forging strategic partnerships, securing funding, and driving pipeline advancements in immuno-oncology and targeted therapies. His achievements include overseeing Phase 3 trials for breakthrough candidates, negotiating multimillion-dollar licensing deals, and successfully navigating FDA interactions, earning him an honorary Doctor of Science (Sc.D. h.c.) for his contributions to medical science. His expertise spans hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and innovative platforms like galinpepimut-S (GPS), a WT1-targeted immunotherapy. As President and Chief Executive Officer of SELLAS Life Sciences Group, Inc. since 2019, Dr. Stergiou leads the company's mission to develop novel treatments for cancer patients with urgent needs.
