Yasmine Wasfi, MD, is a distinguished pulmonologist and clinical development leader with over 25 years of experience in respiratory medicine. She earned her medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and completed her internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Florida. Early in her career, Dr. Wasfi advanced through key roles at GlaxoSmithKline, where she contributed to the clinical development of novel therapies for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory conditions, honing her expertise in late-stage clinical trials and regulatory strategy. At Boehringer Ingelheim, Dr. Wasfi served as Executive Director and Global Clinical Development Leader for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), spearheading the Phase 3 clinical program that led to the FDA approval of OFEV® (nintedanib)—the first new therapy for IPF in over a decade. Her leadership extended to additional approvals for progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed publications, global presentations, and pivotal advancements in rare lung disease treatment paradigms. As Chief Medical Officer at Savara Inc., a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to rare respiratory diseases, Dr. Wasfi directs the clinical development pipeline, including the ongoing Phase 3 IMPALA-2 and IMPALA-3 trials of molgramostim inhalation solution for autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (aPAP). Her strategic oversight ensures rigorous execution of clinical programs, fostering innovation and accelerating access to transformative therapies for patients with unmet needs.
