John Wander serves as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Talen Energy Corporation, a leading independent power producer focused on clean and reliable energy solutions. In this pivotal role, he oversees all legal affairs, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management for the company, guiding strategic initiatives amid a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Wander plays a key part in high-stakes transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, financings, and commercial agreements, ensuring Talen's operations align with federal and state regulations while advancing sustainability goals. With over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, Wander's career began at Exelon Corporation, where he rose through the ranks to become Deputy General Counsel, managing complex legal matters for one of the nation's largest utilities. Prior to Exelon, he practiced corporate law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, advising on energy projects, securities offerings, and litigation. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame (B.A.) and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (J.D.), Wander has been instrumental in landmark deals, such as Talen's spin-off from Exelon in 2015 and subsequent nuclear and renewable energy asset acquisitions. Under Wander's leadership, Talen has navigated significant regulatory challenges, including FERC proceedings and environmental compliance, while achieving notable successes like securing long-term power purchase agreements and expanding its zero-carbon portfolio. His strategic counsel has bolstered the company's financial stability and positioned it as a leader in the transition to low-emission power generation, earning recognition from peers for his expertise in energy markets and corporate ethics.
