Dr. Christopher Kenney, MD, serves as Chief Medical Officer at Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative therapies for epilepsy and other neurological disorders. A board-certified neurologist with over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Kenney earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at the Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital programs. His early career included academic practice and clinical research, where he specialized in epilepsy and movement disorders, laying the foundation for his transition into industry leadership. Prior to joining Xenon in 2021, Dr. Kenney held pivotal roles at leading biopharma companies. At Biogen, he was Vice President and Global Head of Medical Neurology, directing medical strategy for multiple sclerosis therapies and other central nervous system programs, contributing to the approval and global launch of several key drugs. Previously, at UCB Pharma, he served as Global Medical Lead for VimpatĀ® (lacosamide), playing a key role in its development, regulatory approval, and post-marketing expansion as a first-line anti-epileptic treatment, which has benefited millions of patients worldwide. As CMO at Xenon, Dr. Kenney oversees the clinical development organization, medical affairs, and regulatory strategy, spearheading the advancement of the company's pipeline, including the potassium channel modulator azetukalner (formerly XEN1101) for focal epilepsy and other indications. His strategic vision has propelled Xenon through successful Phase 3 trials and pivotal regulatory submissions, fostering collaborations with key opinion leaders and positioning the company at the forefront of precision medicine for rare and developmental epilepsies.
